ARLINGTON, Texas- It was billed as a test for Diego De La Hoya, who had little trouble solving Luis Del Valle on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in a junior featherweight bout.

The cousin of Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya easily beat the more experienced Del Valle by unanimous decision by scores of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-91 in the opening of the HBO PPV undercard for Canelo Alvarez’s junior middleweight title fight against Liam Smith.

De La Hoya (16-0, 9 knockouts) possessed the quicker hands and feet, perpetually darting in and out and landing shots before Del Valle (22-3, 16 KOs) had time to react. He landed several clean blows in the fourth round that snapped Del Valle’s head back. De La Hoya staggered Dell Valle in the sixth, actually spinning him around during one sequence. And the 22-year-old flurried at the bell to end the tenth; he seemed to have Del Valle hanging on for survival before he was saved by the bell.
