Unbeaten junior featherweight Diego De La Hoya will face Luis Orlando Del Valle on Sept. 17, manager Joel De La Hoya told RingTV.com Tuesday night.

The 10-round bout will take place on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith bout at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

According to Joel, the bout will likely open the pay-per-view broadcast.

Diego De La Hoya (15-0, 9 knockouts), 22, is the younger cousin of Oscar and Joel De La Hoya. The southpaw from Mexicali, Mexico, has impressed with his ability to effectively box or break down modest opposition over the last year or so.

In his last bout, on May 7, De La Hoya stopped Rocco Santomauro in the seventh round in Las Vegas on the Canelo-Amir Khan undercard. Santomauro entered the bout unbeaten at 13-0.

Del Valle (22-2, 16 KOs) is a significant step up in opposition for De La Hoya.

Del Valle, who is from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, last fought on May 13, winning an eight-round unanimous decision over Thomas Snow in Washington D.C.

He has won his last four bouts since losing to Luis Rosa in May 2014. Del Valle’s other loss came at the hands of Vic Darchinyan in September 2012.
