The undefeated Tommy Langford (17-0, 6KOs) will challenge Chris Eubank Jr. (23-1, 18KOs) for the British middleweight championship after promoter Frank Warren secured the purse bids to stage the contest.

Langford, who holds the Commonwealth middleweight title will take on Eubank Jr., who is rated No. 6 by THE RING at 160 pounds, at a venue and date to be confirmed.

“I’m delighted Frank Warren has won the purse bid and that I’ll be fighting for the famous Lonsdale Belt,” said Langford in a press release issued by Queensberry Promotions. “I need a scalp of his magnitude to project my profile and Eubank is one of the biggest names on the scene at the moment.

“We’ve sparred in the recent past and, (even) though you can’t (read) too much into that, I know what he does well and what he doesn’t do well. I believe my style exploits his. Sure, Chris is dangerous but Billy Joe Saunders exposed his limitations with his quality and movement. I know I’ve got the tools to beat him. I hope he doesn’t do his usual when it comes to a big threat and vacate the title.”

Eubank Jr. appeared close to securing a bout with IBF, WBA and WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, however negotiations stalled. He was replaced by countryman, and IBF welterweight titleholder, Kell Brook who meets Golovkin on Sept. 10 in London.
