Negotiations have collapsed between undefeated heavyweight Luis Ortiz and Alexander Ustinov, causing the bout to be scratched from the Canelo Alvarez-Liam Smith undercard on Sept. 17 at AT&T Stadium on HBO PPV, Golden Boy VP Eric Gomez told RingTV.com.

Though Ortiz, a secondary titleholder, had agreed to the deal, issues of money sank the discussions, and now Golden Boy officials are scrambling to see if the fight can be made for a later date while also trying to salvage their relationship with the Cuban heavyweight, Gomez said. Gomez declined to go public with the details of the fractured partnership.

“There are some issues with Ortiz that have to be worked out,” Gomez said in a phone interview. “We’ll see if we can still make the fight and work out things with Ortiz but the fight won’t happen on Sept. 17.”

The WBA ordered on Wednesday a purse bid at its Panama City offices for Aug. 15 for the bout between Ortiz and Ustinov. The lowest bid possible is $600,000; Ortiz (25-0, 22 knockouts) is eligible to receive 60 percent of the winning bid and Ustinov (33-1, 24 KOs) 40 percent.
