Antonio Gutierrez to face Jorge Melendez on Sept. 2

Middleweight Antonio Gutierrez will face Jorge Melendez on Sept. 2, Golden Boy Promotions recently announced.

The 10-round bout will take place at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Gutierrez (20-2-1, 9 knockouts) is coming off a close 10-round unanimous decision loss to Gabriel Rosado on June 4 in nearby Carson. The Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico resident dropped Rosado in round four but was unable to put him away.

The loss snapped a three-bout winning streak.



Melendez (29-6-1, 27 KOs) has not fought since Dec. 19, when he was stopped in the second round by Steve Martinez in Verona, New York.

Melendez, who resides in Manati, Puerto Rico, has lost three of his last four bouts. His most notable losses include Nick Brinson, Javier Maciel and unbeaten Ievgen Khytrov.

Also fighting on the card will be hard-hitting Christian Gonzalez. The 20-year-old will fight Jonathan Corrales in an eight-round junior lightweight bout.

Gonzalez has built a significant following in and around the Los Angeles suburb of Buena Park, where he resides.

In his last bout, also on June 4, Gonzalez (14-0, 12 KOs) won a one-sided eight-round decision over Jhon Gemino.

Corrales (8-3-2, 3 KOs) fought to a six-round draw against Abraham Montoya on June 18. Corrales is unbeaten in his last eight bouts.

Both fights will air live on Estrella TV, beginning at 10 p.m. ET/ 7 p.m. PT.

Also fighting on the Golden Boy Promotions card will be unbeaten Lamont Roach Jr. (11-0, 3 KOs).

RingTVLive.com will air the entire Golden Boy Promotions card. The broadcast will be begin at 8:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. PT.
