Fringe lightweight contender Jose Roman will face Carlos Cardenas Friday night, Thompson Boxing Promotions matchmaker Alex Camponovo advised RingTV.

The eight-round bout will take place at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California.

Roman (22-1-1, 15 knockouts) knocked out Martin Angel Martinez in the second round of his last bout on April 22.

Roman, who resides in nearby Garden Grove, has won eight consecutive bouts.

“I feel stronger and ready to fight Cardenas,” said Roman. “The plan is to start fast and set the tone in the first three rounds. My mentality is always to finish the fight early.

Cardenas (21-10-1, 14 KOs) has lost five of his last six bouts. In his last bout on Nov. 7, Cardenas was stopped by Nery Saguilan in the seventh round.

In the co-feature, bantamweight Carlos Carlson will square off against Gerardo Marin Hernandez in an eight-round bout.

Since losing his pro debut, Carlson has yet to lose a fight. His streak has earned him a No. 10 ranking by the WBC.

In his last bout on April 22, Carlson (21-1, 12 KOs) won a six-round unanimous decision over Giovanni Caro.

“There’s a lot of work to do before I earn a world title shot and it starts with Marin,” said Carlson, who resides in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Marin (13-4-1, 8 KOs) was stopped in the fifth round by TJ Doheny in his last bout on March 19. He has lost three of his last five bouts.

Also appearing on the Thompson Boxing Promotions card will be amateur standout Ruben Villa. The two-time National Golden Gloves champion at 123 pounds will make his pro debut against Gerardo Molina (1-1, 1 KO) in a four-round bout.
