Unbeaten featherweight Joseph Diaz Jr. will fight fringe contender Victor Proa on July 30, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz confirmed to RingTV over the weekend.
The 10-round bout will take place at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. The bout will precede the 10-round main event between unbeaten junior welterweight contender Antonio Orozco and Abner Lopez.

Both fights will air on HBO Latino, beginning at 11:30 p.m. ET.

In his last bout on March 26, Diaz (20-0, 11 knockouts) scored a one-sided, 10-round decision over Jayson Velez in Oakland, California.

Diaz, who grew up in the Los Angeles suburb of South El Monte, is one of Golden Boy Promotions’ top featherweights.

The 23-year-old Diaz is already ranked in the Top 10 in three of the major sanctioning bodies. He is ranked No. 9 by THE RING magazine.

Proa (28-1-2, 21 KOs) has fought only twice since suffering the only loss of his pro career in November of 2008. Proa was knocked out by Raul Martinez in the first round.

After the loss to Martinez, the 31-year-old from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico stopped Alfredo Banaga in February of 2010. Proa did not fight again until Feb. 5 of this year, knocking out Oswaldo Oziel Delgado (then-0-4) in the first round.

Also scheduled to fight on the Golden Boy Promotions undercard is unbeaten Nick Arce (8-0, 6 KOs).
