Jarrett Hurd and Oscar Molina will open Saturday’s CBS broadcast
Organizers have moved quickly to replace Abner Mares’ fight with Jesus Cuellar on Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn after Mares couldn’t get licensed because of an injury.
Undefeated junior middleweights Jarrett Hurd and Oscar Molina will open the CBS broadcast (9 p.m. ET) at Barclays Center underneath Keith Thurman’s welterweight title defense against Shawn Porter, it was announced on Monday.
The bout between Hurd (17-0, 11 knockouts) and former Mexican Olympian Molina (13-0-1, 10 KOs) represents a crossroads match-up for both to determine who will emerge as a rising contender in the talent-rich junior middleweight division.
Hurd stopped previously undefeated Frank Galarza in the sixth-round last November while Molina suffered the first blemish on his record with a draw against undefeated Domonique Dolton in September. The match was elevated from the undercard after former three-division champion Mares was scratched from the show because of a medical condition.
