Middleweight Gabriel Rosado will face Antonio Gutierrez on June 4, Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz told RingTV over the weekend.
The 10-round bout will take place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The bout will precede the HBO ‘Boxing After Dark’ broadcast, which will feature the highly-anticipated junior lightweight title showdown between Francisco Vargas and Orlando Salido and the bout between two undefeated featherweights Abraham Lopez and Julian Ramirez.
Rosado-Gutierrez, along with the rest of the Golden Boy Promotions undercard, will be televised live on RingTVLive.com.
Rosado (22-9, 13 knockouts) returned to the ring on Dec. 19 after having been out of action for over a year, grinding out a 10-round unanimous decision win over Joshua Clottey.
The victory snapped a five-bout winless streak, in which Rosado fought IBF/WBA/WBC middleweight titlist Gennady Golovkin, J’Leon Love, Peter Quillin, Jermell Charlo and David Lemieux.
Rosado has been training in Las Vegas over the last several months, working with fighter-turned-trainer Fernando Vargas.
While Rosado has had numerous high-profile fights in his career, it will be the first time he will fight in Southern California.
Gutierrez (20-1, 9 KOs) has won his last three bouts straight since suffering his only loss as a pro at the hands of Paul Valenzuela a year ago.
In his last bout on April 29, the Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico resident stopped overmatched Alejandro Alonso in the third round.
Of Gutierrez’s 21 bouts as a pro, he has only faced six fighters with winning records.
Francisco A. Salazar has written for RingTV since October of 2013 and has covered boxing in Southern California and abroad since 2000. Francisco also covers boxing for the Ventura County (California) Star newspaper, BoxingScene.com and Knockout Nation. He can be reached by email at [email protected] or on Twitter at FSalazarBoxing.
