The Al Haymon team is stacked up at 140 and 147 pounds and that surplus got beefier Saturday when Errol Spence Jr. did what mega-stars Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan couldn’t do: Stop Chris Algieri.

All these upper-tier guys need gigs, so we will be curious to see how some of the mix-and-match plays out. The rumor mill whispered that we could see a Lamont Peterson vs. Sammy Vasquez Jr. scrap in the near future. Peterson is 34-3-1 (17 knockouts) and a ‘tweener right now, in between 140 and 147. He got a W in his last outing, in October vs. Felix Diaz, after losing a tight tangle to Danny Garcia. The lefty from Pennsylvania, Vasquez, is 21-0 (15 KOs), firmly at 147, and is one of the top movers up the ladder since Premier Boxing Champions debuted last year. He bested Aaron Martinez in January and Peterson would be a step up from anyone with whom he’s tangoed.

Former RING 140-pound champ Danny Garcia (32-0, 18 KOs) will get a headline slot somewhere soon. He beat Robert Guerrero on that shared January card with Vasquez. Word is he could dance with Adrien Broner, should Broner’s legal woes get solved soon, or maybe Devon Alexander, who has lost three of his last four, so I’m not sure if he needs a win to prove his efficacy before getting such a high profile engagement.

Garcia has hinted on Twitter with WBO 147-pound boss Jessie Vargas but Vargas is with Top Rank Promotions and PBC and they are not on the kindest of terms.

I reached out to a PBC spokesperson to gauge the accuracy of the rumor mill and will insert a response when I hear back.

Readers, you weigh in…What fights do you want the powers that be to make? I think it is high time that warring political parties bury hatchets long enough to make more inter-division bouts, myself…Talk to us!

What’s next for the Woodsy Pack? Well, since Gleason’s Gym is now a perennial destination on Mike and Company’s near-daily schedule, look for his older daughter, Bella, to glove up and give him an “America’s Funniest Home Videos”-style shot right in the goolies. Hence, the Woodsy Pack becomes the Ice Pack.
