Krzysztof Glowacki dropped game former titleholder Steve Cunningham four times en route to a decision victory in the first defense of his WBO cruiserweight belt on Saturday in Brooklyn.

Glowacki (26-0, 16 knockouts), a Polish southpaw who won the WBO title with a 12th-round stoppage of Marco Huck in a fight of the year candidate last August, knocked down the 39-year-old veteran twice in Round 2 with sweeping left crosses. Cunningham (28-8-1, 13 KOs) went down after lunging into a short right hook in Round 10, and he was dropped by a left with 30 seconds left in Round 12.

But the two-time IBF titleholder from Philadelphia did what he always does when he’s knocked down, he got up, fought back with passion and boxed well when he had his wits about him. Cunningham, who is coming off a split-draw with Antonio Tarver and a split-decision loss to Vycheslav Glazkov (at heavyweight), took the fight to Glowacki in Round 9, rocked the defending beltholder (who is 10 years younger) with a big right after being dropped in Round 10, and also had moments in the final round before he visited the canvas for the fourth time.

Scores for Glowacki were 116-108 (twice) and 115-109, which indicates a competitive fight without the point deductions for the knockdowns.

The fight, which was televised live on NBC, was on the undercard of the Errol Spence Jr.-Chris Algieri welterweight bout at Barclays Center.
