WASHINGTON, D.C. — If the pending legal battle that awaits Adrien Broner back home isn’t distraction enough, the brash 26 year old weighed in .4 of a pound over the 140-pound junior welterweight division limit on Thursday at the Bald Eagle Recreation Center for his main event bout against Ashley Theophane at the D.C. Armory on Friday.

Theophane weighed in precisely at 140 pounds.

Broner was given two hours to shed the extra weight but opted instead to let go of his WBA title. The card will kick off season two of Spike TV’s Premier Boxing Champions series.

Broner will have to answer to the authorities in his native Cincinnati at some point following what would have been the first defense of the title he won by stopping Khabib Allakhverdiev last October. There is a warrant out for Broner’s arrest stemming from an incident on Jan. 21 when Broner allegedly beat up an acquaintance of his outside of a local bowling alley over a gambling dispute from a bowling match.

According to reports Broner will be charged with felony assault and robbery when he finally turns himself in. Before then he will have to deal with Theophane, who is promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr. Mayweather and Broner have traded barbs yesterday over social media when Mayweather was no show at the final press conference for the bout.

Broner is a four-division titleholder but is no stranger to coming in to a weigh-in with a little extra baggage. Back in 2012, Broner lost his first title (a 130-pound belt) when he came in over the limit for his defense against Vicente Escobedo. Last year Broner came in at 141 pounds for his first bout on PBC against John Molina Jr.
