Deontay Wilder’s heavyweight title defense against Alexander Povetkin may have some company.

The Showtime network is looking to package Jermall Charlo’s IBF junior middleweight title fight with Austin Trout alongside a replay of Wilder-Povetkin on a Showtime telecast on May 21, a source close to the negotiations told RingTV.com.

A leading venue to host Charlo-Trout may come as a surprise since both fighters hail from the Southwest. But Barclays Center in Brooklyn could be a landing spot and is in play to host the fight, the source said. While Charlo-Trout hasn’t officially been announced, both camps have signed off on the fight.

Povetkin promoter Alexander Ryabinksi won the purse bid for Wilder-Povetkin and has said he wants to stage the fight in Russia. If that happens, Wilder’s WBC heavyweight defense would likely take place in the afternoon on a live Showtime telecast. The idea would then be to pair a replay of Wilder-Povetkin with a live broadcast of Charlo-Trout later that night on a May 21 doubleheader, the source said.

If Showtime pulls off this highly attractive telecast, it would just add to the impressive rollout the network announced earlier this month when it revealed a seven-telecast spring/summer lineup.
