The post-fight talk for next for WBO 140-pound titlist Terence Crawford centered mostly on Ruslan Provodnikov, the Teflon-chinned rumbler.
He’s been on the Team Crawford wish list for over a year, brings a marquee name to the table and has a lack of mobility, which seems to make him tailor-made to take his fifth loss against “Bud.”
A more mobile but lesser known boxer who could be in the mix is Viktor Postol. I spoke to Crawford’s trainer, Brian McIntyre, post-Hank Lundy, about Postol, technically tight and holder of the WBC 140-pound crown.
What about next?
“Postol,” McIntyre said. “Postol. He the one talking sh*t. If he’s got anything to bring to the table!”
Trained by Freddie Roach, the Ukrainian Postol scored a solid upset over Lucas Matthysse, who since jumped a weight class in his last outing.
There has been chatter for months now about whether Crawford wants Postol, or doesn’t, or if Postol was or was not in the mix to get the op Lundy got.
McIntyre said he doesn’t think the Ukrainian should be much harder to handle than Lundy. Postol will need to be deciphered; training will have to be tailored specifically to speak to his strengths, his not inconsiderable technical chops, but, the trainer said, he is certainly not anyone to be avoided.
Michael Woods is certainly not anyone to be avoided…at least before lunch. Get a Reuben sandwich in that boy and…well, he’s gotta have some sort of Swiss cheese and sauerkraut allergy.
