Promoter Frank Warren will make a request for the IBF to order an immediate rematch between Ovill McKenzie and the organization’s cruiserweight titleholder Victor Emilio Ramirez after their bout ended in a split decision draw on Friday.

Despite taking the fight at only 11 days’ notice, McKenzie fought the fight of his life against the Argentinian in his backyard of Buenos Aires. The judges were split at the end with Alejandro Lopez Cid scoring it for Ramirez 115-113, Larry Layton giving it to McKenzie 115-113, and John Poturaj having it level at 114-114.

Warren believes that McKenzie won the fight and that the IBF should order a return bout following the challenger’s gallant stand.

He said, “It was an exceptional performance from McKenzie fighting away from home.

“I think he won the fight and, although some rounds were close, he was the better man. I will write to the IBF in view of the decision and request that they give McKenzie an immediate rematch, which I believe is only fair.”

Victor Ramirez is currently rated No. 8 by THE RING at 200 pounds.
