Cuban ace Yuriorkis Gamboa impressed many mightily when he fought 2014 BWAA Fighter of the Year Terence Crawford, and the 33-year-old is keen to step up and take another big-platform bout.

Gamboa (24-1, the single loss to Crawford) told me that yes indeed, he’d like to tangle with Jamaican hitter Nicholas Walters (who failed to make weight for his most recent bout).

Now, we all know boxing, sometimes politics gets in the way of the possible. What about in this case? Did Gamboa settle with 50 Cent, his promoter who claimed limited bankruptcy and exited boxing after a brief and unsuccessful foray?

“Yes, I got free, but not on a permanent basis,” Gamboa told me. “But I can fight for The Money Team now. I have until December and then we revisit the issue.”

So, that sounds promising, one hurdle removed.

“I hope me against Walters gets made,” Gamboa finished. “But it’s more up to the writers than me! I wanted Mikey Garcia back then, but it never happened and I was blamed for it not taking place. I even accepted a lot less!”

Fan-friendly fight, probably sellable and makeable  we will keep you apprised, friends.
