Fans agree that Leo Santa Cruz deserved nod over Abner Mares
The vast majority of fans who have taken part in our current RING Poll agree that Leo Santa Cruz deserved a decision over Abner Mares in their compelling featherweight fight on Aug. 29 in Los Angeles.
A total of 76.94 percent of voters believe Santa Cruz deserved the nod, compared to 10.25 percent for Mares, as of 8 p.m. PT Wednesday.
The highest percentage of voters (33.40 percent) scored it 116-112 (eight rounds to four) for Santa Cruz, followed by scores of 117-111 (19.80 percent), 115-113 (18.52 percent) and 118-110 (5.22 percent) for the winner.
The highest percentage of voters who believe Mares should’ve won (4.93 percent) scored it 115-113. That was followed by 118-110 (2.17 percent), 116-112 (1.77 percent) and 117-111 (1.38 percent) for Mares.
Some voters thought neither fighter deserved the decision: 7.59 percent scored it a draw. And, finally, 5.22 percent checked “other” in our poll.
The official scores were 117-111, 117-111 and 114-114. THE RING scored it 116-112 for Santa Cruz.
