There is nothing like fighting at or near your hometown. Undefeated junior welterweight Jose Carlos Ramirez can vouch for that.
Ramirez will fight on Sept. 26 at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif., Top Rank Promotions matchmaker Brad Goodman told RingTV.com
The eight-round bout will headline a “Solo Boxeo Tecate” card and will be televised on UniMas, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/ PT.
Ramirez is a huge draw in the San Joaquin Valley, where he grew up in the small agricultural town of Avenal. His fights at Selland Arena in Fresno draw sell-out crowds of 8,000 to 9,000 fight fans. This time, Ramirez (15-0, 12 knockouts) will be fighting 30 miles away from his hometown.
“There is no place like home and I am honored to fight at Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, which has been a huge supporter of me since day one,” said Ramirez.
“Top Rank is very proud of Jose and all that he has accomplished inside and out of the ring while helping his community,” said Top Rank CEO Bob Arum. “He is a great person, a great fighter and a future world champion.”
In his last bout on July 18, Ramirez stopped Ryusei Yoshida after the third round in Macau, China.
No opponent has been officially announced, although Goodman did tell RingTV that veteran Manny Perez is a possible opponent for Ramirez.
Top Rank announced that only 2,000 tickets will be sold to the public.
