British bantamweight Jamie McDonnell (26-2-1, 12 knockouts) will venture to Texas for the second time in four months to fight Tomoki Kameda on Sept. 12 in Corpus Christi.

McDonnell, rated No. 5 by THE RING at 118 pounds, got off the canvas to score a unanimous decision over Kameda in Hidalgo, Texas, in May, and told RingTV.com almost immediately afterwards that he would be happy to fight the powerful Japanese puncher in a rematch.

A fluid boxer with a superb engine, McDonnell is a former IBF titleholder at 118 pounds who went under the radar following his arrival on the world scene two years ago. In May 2013 he scored a wide decision over the previously unbeaten Julio Ceja to claim the vacant IBF strap but was stripped for failing to enter negotiations with a mandatory challenger.

The 29-year-old posted four more victories but his win over Kameda was an eye-opener for anyone who pays attention to the bantamweight division.

The Kameda rematch was confirmed on Twitter by McDonnell’s manager, Dave Coldwell, and promoter, Eddie Hearn, who are both extremely confident that the Englishman can be victorious for a second time.

Kameda (31-1, 19 KOs) is rated No. 6 by THE RING at 118 pounds.
