Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux, the middleweight division’s two biggest punchers, have agreed terms for what promises to be a thunderous collision on Oct. 17 at Madison Square Garden in New York on HBO Pay-Per-View.

The date and venue information was released by Golovkin on his official Twitter account.

The fight will unify Golovkin’s WBA and Lemieux’s IBF titles. Lemieux captured the vacant IBF title with a unanimous decision victory over Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam last month, a fight in which N’Dam went down four times.

It will be the first time that Golovkin (33-0, 30 knockouts) will have encountered a fully-fledged middleweight who is recognized by fans and media as an authentic puncher. Golovkin has a KO ratio of 91 percent, Lemieux (34-2, 30 KOs) 88 percent.

Golovkin is rated No. 1 by THE RING at 160 pounds, Lemieux No. 4.

The chief support bout is likely to feature the sensational WBC flyweight titleholder Roman “Chocalito” Gonzalez.
