Chris Arreola and Fred Kassi fight to a draw on Frampton-Gonzalez card
Chris Arreola and Fred Kassi fought to a majority draw in a 10-round heavyweight bout on the Carl Frampton-Alejandro Gonzalez card Saturday in El Paso, Texas.
Kassi (18-3-1, 10 knockouts) appeared to be too slick for Arreola, landing 1-2 combinations and smothering the bigger man to avoid taking punishment inside from beginning to end.
Arreola (36-4-1, 31 KOs) had his moments — landing hard body shots, in particular — but he could never figure out how to get to Kassi on a consistent basis.
One judge scored it 96-94 for Arreola while the other two had it 95-95. THE RING had it 96-94 for Kassi, a native of Cameroon based in New Orleans.
Arreola was hoping to remain in position to face WBC heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder.
