In his last bout on May 30, Saul Rodriguez (17-0-1, 13 knockouts) dropped Antonio Capulin in the first round en route to a one-sided, eight-round decision victory in Hollywood, Calif., proving he can box and not solely rely on his power.
The unbeaten lightweight will showcase both talents on Aug. 22 when he faces Ramsey Luna, Top Rank Promotions matchmaker Brad Goodman told RingTV on Tuesday afternoon.
The eight-round bout will headline a Top Rank card and will take place in Fallon, Nev. The bout will be televised on UniMas, beginning at 11 p.m. ET/ PT.
The Capulin victory snapped an eight-bout knockout streak for Rodriguez.
The 22-year-old Rodriguez is one of Top Rank’s brightest prospects. He splits his time training in his hometown of Riverside, Calif. and in Oxnard.
In his last bout on May 9, Luna (12-3, 5 KOs) lost a close, eight-round majority decision to Curtis Meeks in Houston, Tex.. Luna’s other decision losses were to Ryan Kielczewski and Toka Kahn Clary.
No word yet what venue in Fallon will host or who will open the “Solo Boxeo Tecate” telecast.
