Leo Santa Cruz made his debut as a 126-pound fighter a successful one with workmanlike unanimous-decision victory over Jose Cayetano.

It was Santa Cruz being Santa Cruz as he pressed forward and rifled off combinations throughout the 10-round bout. It wasn’t a thrilling performance but it certainly was consistent with what you would expect from Terremoto. He just didn’t have the right dance partner to challenge him.

Cayetano (17-4) attempted to hold his ground but the sheer volume of punches from Santa Cruz left him little room to breathe. In the later rounds, it was evident that Cayetano had little to offer and did his best to get away from Santa Cruz. The only thing missing from the shutout was Santa Cruz putting his foe down. But you can’t have everything all of the time as Santa Cruz improves to 30-0-1 and has the likes of Abner Mares and Gary Russell Jr on his radar.

Scores were 100-90 across the board.
