RING junior welterweight champ Danny Garcia defeated Lamont Peterson by a majority decision Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The more aggressive Garcia (30-0, 17 knockouts) outworked Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs) in the first half of the fight, as Peterson was content to jab and move. Peterson threw very few punches in the first six rounds.

However, Peterson engaged Garcia more in the second half of the fight and more than held his own, evidently turning a one-sided fight into a close one.

One judge scored it 114-114 while the other two scored it 115-113 for Garcia.

The fight took place at a catchweight of 143 pounds, meaning Garcia’s RING, WBC and WBA titles were not at stake.

Peterson, a former 140-pound titleholder, had won two consecutive fights since he was stopped in three rounds by Lucas Matthysse in 2013.

A full report will follow shortly.
