Once-beaten Argentine lightweight Marcelino “Nino” Lopez has signed a promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions, according to company president Oscar De La Hoya.

A 28-year-old from Arribenos, Buenos Aires, Lopez (31-1-1, 15 knockouts) is coming off a fifth-round technical knockout over Diego Martin Aguilera in October that followed a unanimous decision loss to Pablo Martin Barboza in July.

“Golden Boy Promotions continues to strengthen its roster of fighters,” said De La Hoya, “and adding Marcelino Lopez to the team confirms the great plans we have to find the best talent to put on the best fights for the fans.”

Lopez has battled to a draw and a majority decision victory Sergio Javier Escobar in May 2013 and May 2014.

“I am glad to be working with Golden Boy Promotions,” said Lopez. “I feel that this is a great opportunity for me to be introduced to a larger boxing audience. I am excited to see what 2015 will bring being part of a world recognized promotional company.”

Lopez is managed by Mario Arano, who also handles THE RING’s No. 1-rated junior welterweight Lucas Matthysse.

“I am happy to continue working with Golden Boy Promotions. They are family and have always chosen the best fights for their fighters,” said Arano. “They have done a great job with Lucas Matthysse and I trust that they will do an excellent job bringing international acclaim and notoriety to Marcelino Lopez.”
