Three-time world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali was released from a hospital Tuesday night after recovering from a severe urinary tract infection, a family spokesman told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

“He’s in great spirits and enjoying being back home,” said spokesman Bob Gunnell of Ali, who was released from an undisclosed hospital Tuesday night. “He’s back in his daily routine.”

Ali is back home and looking forward to celebrating his 73rd birthday on Jan. 17 with his family and friends, Gunnell told the AP.

Hospitalized on Dec. 20 with what was initially believed to be a mild case of pneumonia that was later determined to be a severe urinary tract infection, Ali has been waging a battle with Parkinson’s disease for three decades.

Gunnell said the Ali family appreciates the outpouring of support and well wishes and thanked his team of doctors and nurses.
