RING No. 1-rated flyweight Juan Franciso Estrada, holder of the division’s WBA and WBO belts, will face Joebert Alvarez in a 10-round, non-title fight on Saturday at the Centro de Usos Multiples in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.

Estrada (30-2-2, 22 knockouts) is competing against Alvarez (14-0-1, 6 KOs) at 113 pounds, according to WBO Secretary General Jose Izquierdo.

“[Estrada] has requested that we authorize that he be able to participate in a non-championship fight. So he will do that,” said Izquierdo. “We’re waiting for his petition for us to authorize that and then, he’ll go ahead with that and then we’ll go from there. The belt is not on the line.”

Estrada, 24, has won four straight fights, his last two by knockout, since falling by unanimous decision to RING champion and WBC beltholder Roman Gonzalez in November 2012.

In his following bout, Estrada defeated RING No. 2-rated Brian Viloria by split decision in April 2013, earning the WBO strap.

Estrada, of Sonora, Mexico, is coming off an 11th round technical knockout of former junior flyweight beltholder Giovani Segura in September and also owns a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Milan Melindo from July 2013.

“Even though my belt is not on the line in this fight, I take it very seriously. Every time that I enter the ring, my pride and reputation are always on the line,” said Estrada.

“So I am motivated to do my best, to work hard and to train hard. With God’s help, I know I can win this fight…I love my fans and I will always do my best. It will be a great victory.”

A 25-year-old native of General Santos City, Philippines, Alvarez’s last victory was a unanimous decision over Julian Rivera in April.

“Juan Estrada is one of the finest young boxers I’ve come across in the past decade and we are very proud of him. He pours his heart and soul into every fight,” said Carlos Moncada, CEO of Latin Sports.

“He is a joy to watch because of his finesse and prowess in the ring. It is really an exciting experience and we are positive of a winning performance. Juan is a valiant warrior and he always keeps his fans coming back for more.”
