A rumored showdown between Ruslan Provodnikov and Jose Luis Castillo has been confirmed for Nov. 28 in Provodnikov’s backyard of Moscow, Russia. It will be Provodnikov’s first fight back in his homeland since December of 2011 when he scored a unanimous decision victory over DeMarcus Corley.

“I’m happy to be fighting at home! It’s been three years, and I’m ready for war with Castillo! Hope to see all my fans in Moscow on Nov. 28th!” Provodnikov (23-3, 16 knockouts) sated in a press release.

Provodnikov will look to bounce back after a closely contested loss to Chris Algieri back in June that set up the Long Islander with his biggest fight to date against Manny Pacquiao on Nov. 22.

Skeptics will rightfully shower the selection of Castillo with criticism as the Mexican veteran is a shell of the former lightweight champion who gave Floyd Mayweather Jr. all he could handle and danced with the late Diego Corrales in one of the most memorable wars fans have ever witnessed inside of the squared circle.

Castillo (64-12-1, 55 knockouts) is on a two-fight win streak since dropping a unanimous decision to Antwone Smith in 2013 and scored fifth-round TKOs against Felix Bojorquez and the previously unbeaten Jose Luis Payan. However, the 40 year old hasn’t defeated a top-ranked opponent since he stopped Corrales in 2005. Since then, he has lost to Ricky Hatton, Sebastian Andres Lujan, Alfonso Gomez, Jorge Paez Jr. and the aforementioned Smith.

Nevertheless, Castillo still carries a big enough name to be a draw in Moscow and Provodnikov will look to please his fans with yet another action packed outing.

“I am very excited to have Ruslan fight back in Moscow,” said Banner Promotions President Artie Pelullo. “Ruslan is one of the biggest stars in the sport of boxing. He will be fighting in front of his countrymen in a sold-out arena against a great former world champion in Jose Luis Castillo. I want to thank Andrey Rybinski for all his help and it has been a pleasure to work with him and his staff.”

An American television outlet has not been confirmed as of press time but will be announced shortly.
