Former strawweight and junior flyweight titleholder Kazuto Ioka rebounded from his loss to Amnat Ruenroeng with a 10-round decision victory over Colombian Pablo Carrillo at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

The scores were 99-91, 99-93 and 98-92, all for the Japanese fighter in his first fight back since losing to the reigning IBF flyweight titleholder in May. Ioka, 25, maintained technical superiority throughout the fight but the bigger, determined underdog never relented, maintaining an air of danger throughout the fight.

The 26-year-old Carillo (15-3-1, 8 knockouts) had previously only lost to flyweight contender Luis Concepcion in back-to-back decisions and was not discouraged by fighting abroad for just the third time in his career. Despite the scores, Ioka (15-1, 9 KOs) was never able to fully distance himself from his opponent.

In the co-main event, former WBA strawweight titleholder Ryo Miyazaki (21-1-3, 12 KOs) also returned from his first career defeat, stopping overmatched Indonesian Ichal Tobia (10-13, 8 KOs) at 1:09 of the fifth round. Miyazaki, who is promoted by Ioka Promotions and trains with Kazuto’s father, rebounded from an upset defeat to Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr. on New Years Eve.
