Barry McGuigan glows with pride as he details the effort which has gone into promoting the biggest boxing event in Northern Ireland’s history.

On Saturday night undefeated 122-pound fighter Carl Frampton attempts to become a world junior featherweight champion against Spaniard Kiko Martinez, in a purpose-built open-air arena in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter.

It has been a family affair from start to finish for the McGuigan household, with Barry, the former world champion, as its promoter and figurehead.

“You cannot have a more iconic place. Carl grew up literally 600 metres from the Titanic Dockyard in Tigers Bay,” McGuigan, 53, explains.
