IBF welterweight titleholder Kell Brook is recovering in hospital in Tenerife, Spain, after being stabbed. The undefeated British star, 28, suffered a leg wound in the incident, which is believed to have happened on Wednesday night.

Initial reports suggest the injuries sustained by Brook, who was in Tenerife on holiday, are not ‘life-threatening,’ however a spokesman for the Spanish police revealed that Brook had ‘lost a lot if blood’. He also said investigations are on going but as of early Thursday afternoon there had been no arrests.

It is the second time this summer that British boxing has been caught up in a serious incident in Spain. Jamie Moore, trainer to Irish middleweight contender Mathew Macklin, was shot outside a gym in Marbella in July.

Brook, who won the IBF belt after beating American Shawn Porter in California last month, is scheduled to return to the ring in his home city of Sheffield, Yorkshire, on Dec 5, against an opponent to be confirmed.

However, that first title defense must now be in danger following the news from Spain.

Seven years ago Brook, who is said to be ‘conscious and in a stable condition’, was the victim of a stabbing attack in Sheffield.
