On Saturday evening
cruiserweight champion Yoan Pablo Hernandez returns from a 9-month absence to defend his RING and IBF cruiserweight titles against the rugged Firat Arslan.

Two weeks later Marco Huck will look to equal the division record when he makes his 13th defense of his WBO championship (Huck lost in February 2012 to Alexander Povetkin, but that fight was at heavyweight).

A fight between the two would seem a natural, the consensus No. 1 and 2 vying for the top spot in a talented division. The question is: How likely is that to happen?

Both share the same promoter, which would undoubtedly aid the possibility of the fight being made, but each fighter also works under the expert tutelage of Uli Wegner, which doesn’t appear ideal.

Under the right circumstances Hernandez (28-1, 14 knockouts) is willing to meet his rival.

“Money as well as future perspectives talk,” said Hernandez. “So if I would leave our coach out of this discussion, I am open to fight everyone – Marco Huck included.”

However, Huck (37-2-1, 26 KOs) seems less sure, pointing out the fact that he is friends with Hernandez having known him for close to a decade.

“Before even considering to fight him, I would go for other unification bouts. Even then, it would be a tough decision to make. It is a matchmaker’s dream, I know. But that’s the way it is.” said Huck.

Kalle Sauerland, of Sauerland Event, says he’d like to see both fighters clean the division out first but wouldn’t rule out the possibility at some stage.

“It would be a great fight,” said Sauerland. “But in a division where there are so many great fights to make, this fight will only be made when the other challenges have been dealt with or my guys express to us that they want to fight each other.”
