Diego De La Hoya envisions Leo Santa Cruz fight

Although junior featherweight Diego De La Hoya will only be in his sixth pro fight on July 9, the 19-year-old prospect already envisions himself in a future title bout against WBC beltholder Leo Santa Cruz.

"There are a lot of tough guys in my weight class," said De La Hoya, who turns 20 in August. "One day, I am looking forward to fighting Leo Santa Cruz."

De La Hoya (5-0, 4 knockouts) will face an opponent to be determined on a card from The Joint at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino as the Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes "Golden Boy Live!" series returns to Las Vegas.

The main event features former welterweight and junior middleweight title challenger Alfonso Gomez (23-6-2, 12 KOs) in a 154-pound bout with Ed Paredes (35-3-1, 23 KOs). The show also features 2012 U.S. Olympian Joseph Diaz Jr. (10-0, 7 KOs) in a junior featherweight bout.

"There are a lot of good fighters in my weight class, and I'm just studying guys like Joseph Diaz," said De La Hoya. "That's because I know, for a fact, that we will be meeting each other in the future. You never know when."

The clash between Paredes and Gomez will take place in advance of Golden Boy's July 12 matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara that will happen at The MGM Grand on Showtime Pay Per View.

"I'm extremely happy to be back in Las Vegas for the second time, especially during such a big week," said Diego De La Hoya, whose professional debut was a third-round stoppage of Luis Cosme in September 2013 at the MGM Grand. "This is a beautiful time to be in Las Vegas, and I'm glad that Golden Boy has given me this opportunity."

Diego De La Hoya is the first cousin to Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya, whose father is the brother of Diego's Dad.

"We are first-family. We're first cousins, so I have a lot of pressure because of the family name being very, very famous," said De La Hoya. "I know that the pressure is there, but I'm telling you, I'm ready for that pressure. So nothing is going to detain me from going forward"
