RING ratings update: Lightweight shuffle

[nggallery id=8321]
There were not many fights this past week but the ratings panel discussed movement in the lightweight division.
Cruiserweight: No. 6 Ilunga Makabu (17-1, 16 KOs) scored a ninth-round TKO over unranked veteran Glen Johnson. This result looks good on Makabu’s resume and he will benefit from the experience, but no movement in the ratings.
Lightweight: No. 2 Terence Crawford retained his WBO title, stopping unranked Yuriorkis Gamboa in nine rounds. Crawford will remain No. 2 behind No. 1 Miguel Vazquez. No. 4 Ricky Burns lost to unranked Dejan Zlaticanin, who dropped Burns in the first round and hurt Burns several times along the way to a deserved decision. Burns will be taken out of the ratings altogether. The panel also decided that Kevin Mitchell (38-2, 28 KOs), who in his last fight was losing to Ghislain Maduma on all three cards before scoring an 11th-round TKO, is rated too high at No. 5. With Burns leaving the rankings the panel felt that Mitchell is not worthy of being the fourth best lightweight in the world. There was discussion about Gamboa entering at No. 10. However, due to his limited credentials at 135 and his inactivity, Dierry Jean (26-1, 18 KOs) will enter at No. 10. The rankings will be:
No. 1. Miguel Vazquez, 34-3, 13 KOs
No. 2. Terence Crawford, 24-0, 17 KOs
No. 3. Raymundo Beltran, 29-6-1, 17 KOs
No. 4. Daniel Estrada, 32-2-1, 24 KOs
No. 5. Omar Figueroa, 23-0-1, 17 KOs
No. 6. Juan Diaz, 39-4, 19 KOs
No. 7. Kevin Mitchell, 38-2, 28 KOs
No. 8. Jorge Linares, 36-3, 23 KOs
No. 9. Sharif Bogere, 25-1, 17 KOs
No. 10. Dierry Jean, 26-1, 18 KOs
Strawweight: No. 7 Osvaldo Novoa (14-4-1, 9 KOs) stopped unranked Alcides Martinez to retain his WBC crown. No. 2 Wanheng Menayothin (35-0, 11 KOs) stayed active with a six-round decision over unranked Samuel Tehuayo. No. 9 Ryuji Hara (18-0, 10 KOs) scored a unanimous decision over unranked Faris Nenggo. No movement.
No movement in the Pound For Pound rankings.
