Marcos Maidana has confirmed that negotiations are underway for a Sept. 13 rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., an assertion that had already been made by Mayweather during an interview with the BET network over the weekend.

"REMATCH in the talks," wrote Maidana, on his Twitter account on Tuesday. "Respect for @FloydMayweather man of his word, yet only fist talk in the ring."

Maidana's manager, Sebastian Contursi could not be reached for an immediate comment.

Mayweather (46-0, 26 knockouts) won by majority decision over Maidana (35-4, 31 KOs), ending the Argentine's streak of four consecutive victories and added Maidana's WBA welterweight title to the RING and WBC championships he already owned.

"Sept. 13, back to business, Marcos Maidana-Floyd Mayweather Part II," said Mayweather. "And then in May, I'm fighting in May and I'm going to have a big surprise for you all. Surprise. So everybody tune in."

Maidana, who turns 31 this month, had stopped three consecutive opponents before last December's unanimous decision dethroned the previously unbeaten Adrien Broner, whom he floored once each in the second and eighth rounds for the WBA belt.

The triumph over Broner represented Maidana's fifth fight as a 147-pounder, his last loss having been by unanimous decision to southpaw Devon Alexander in his welterweight debut in February 2012.
