IBF, WBA, WBC meet in Cancun
Representatives of the IBF, WBA and WBC have convened on Monday in Cancun, Mexico, "to discuss and address how we can work better together," according to WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman.
IBF President Daryl Peoples and organization Championships Chairman Lindsey Tucker are there with Sulaiman, IBF Public Relations Director Jeanette Salazar confirmed to RingTV.com.
WBA Vice President Gilberto Mendoza is also expected to attend, WBC assistant director Victor Silva informed RingTV.com on Monday.
"The WBA, the IBF and the WBC are having a meeting of the organizations. I sent out a letter and the IBF and the WBA immediately responded very punctually, so we're going to have a very good meeting. It will be a very enthusiastic group that is trying to address many topics," said Sulaiman during an interview last week with RingTV.com.
"We're going to discuss and address how we can work better together. We're going to discuss championship rules. We're going to discuss unifications. We're going to talk about PEDs and drug testing, ring officials, scoring systems and a whole variety of things."
WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel said that he elected not to attend, adding he would be willing to meet with any of the organization representatives privately.
"We have had two meetings before, one in Dallas and another in Las Vegas and nothing happened," said Valcarcel.
