NEW YORK — Miguel Cotto made easy work of Sergio Martinez on Saturday night, much to the delight of the partisan crowd on hand, dropping Martinez four times en route to a 10th-round stoppage to win THE RING middleweight championship.

Martinez didn't come out for the 10th round after taking a vicious beating over nine rounds. The official time of the stoppage was six seconds into Round 10.

Martinez, who was dropped three times in Round 1, loses for the first time since 2009, when he fell to Paul Williams in a debated decision.

With the victory, Cotto has now titles in four weight classes.
