LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Ishe Smith was supposed to face fellow 154-pound contender Erislandy Lara on Friday. Instead, he would up facing Ryan Davis.

Davis, who offered up very little resistance, was no substitute for Lara and the outcome was expected. Smith made quick work of Davis, knocking him out in the second round inside at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The bout headlined a Golden Boy/ Mayweather Promotions card and was televised live on Fox Sports 1 and Fox Deportes.

Smith was scheduled to fight Lara, but the Cuban-born southpaw backed out of the bout to take a fight with Canelo Alvarez on July 12.

Davis was found as an opponent, but some wondered whether he should still be fighting, considering his best days are behind him and had lost four of his five previous fights.

From the opening bell, Smith landed at will. Davis was able to withstand a lot of the punches, but it looked like he was moments from eating a punch or two that could hurt him.

In the second round, Davis looked like he was in survival mode. Sensing he was hurt during an exchange, Smith went in for the kill, landing a barrage of punches that dropped Davis to the canvas. Davis was down and made no real effort to get up, allowing Jay Nady to count him out at 2:59.

Smith, from Las Vegas, goes to 26-6, 12 knockouts. Davis, from Granite Hills, Ill., drops to 24-14-3, 9 KOs.

Bey bests Herrera

Lightweight standout Mickey Bey survived a knockdown to win a 10-round unanimous decision over Alan Herrera. Bey won by scores of 98-92, 98-92, and 97-92.

Bey and Herrera sized each other up during the first six rounds of the fight. When the finally engaged, it was Bey that repeatedly landed left hooks.

Not to be outdone, Herrera tried to do his best to land to the body in an attempt to slow Bey down.

Things got interesting towards the end of the seventh when Bey was knocked down by a left uppercut from Herrera. Bey did not look visibly hurt and was able to make it out of the round.

During an exchange towards the end of the eighth round, Bey stunned Herrera with a counter right hand to the head. Bey controlled the last two rounds, making Herrera miss and countering him to the head.

Bey, who is based in Las Vegas, goes to 20-1-1, 10 KOs. Herrera, from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico, drops to 32-6, 21 KOs.

Cuellar decisions Ramos

In the opening bout of the Golden Boy Live! telecast, Jesus Cuellar successfully defended his interim WBA featherweight title by winning a 12 round unanimous decision over Rico Ramos. Cuellar won by scores of 116-110, 117-109, and 114-112.

Cuellar dropped Ramos near the end of the first round with a straight left hand to the head. Ramos was able to survive the round.

Cuellar would walk Ramos down during most of the first half of the fight, where he would land repeatedly with left crosses to the head.

Ramos tried to counter with right hands to the head. Some would land, but Ramos would wait too long, allowing Cuellar to initiate first and often.

There were times where Cuellar landed behind the head of Ramos. During one exchange in the eighth round, Cuellar landed a right hand behind the head as Ramos turned around, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to deduct a point from Cuellar.

Ramos had to deal with a cut over his right eye, but he looked lethargic and tired in the last few rounds. While he would sometimes miss, Ramos came on aggressively, landing more hooks and crosses to the head.

Cuellar, from Buenos Aires, Argentina, improves to 24-1, 18 KOs. Ramos, from Los Angeles, Calif., drops to 23-4, 12 KOs.

In preliminary action:

– Bantamweight Rau'shee Warren won a one-sided 10 round unanimous decision over Martin Alvarado. Warren dropped Alvarado in the second and ninth rounds. Both fighters were deducted a point in the fifth round for repeated fouls by referee Robert Byrd. All three judges scored the bout 99-88 in favor of Warren.

– Lightweight Robert Easter Jr. won an eight round unanimous decision over Carlos Cardenas. Easter (10-0, 8 KOs) was in control, although he was stunned in the fourth round by a Cardenas (20-8-1, 13 KOs) right hand. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Easter, 79-73, 79-73, and 80-72.

– Junior welterweight and 2012 United States Olympian Jamel Herring (8-0, 5 KOs) stopped Rogelio Casarez (6-2, 3 KOs) in the second round. Time of the stoppage was 2:22.

– Lightweight Raynell Williams (4-0, 3 KOs) won a one-sided four round unanimous decision over Joshua Arocho (3-9-4, 2 KOs). All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Williams.

– In the opening bout of the Golden Boy/ Mayweather Promotions card, super welterweight Javonte Clark (2-0, 2 KOs) knocked out Miguel Rico (2-6-1) at 25 seconds of the first round.
