RING photographer Naoki Fukuda wins top prize at BWAA awards

Naoki Fukuda, whose work is regularly shown on and in the pages of THE RING Magazine, won first place at the Boxing Writers Associtaion of America photo contest, which took place at the BWAA’s annual awards dinner on May 1 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Fukuda’s shot of cruiserweight Anthony Ferrante celebrating his victory over Isa Akberbayev on Jan. 19, 2013, (above) was voted the best of the Feature Photo category.

Second place in the Feature category was won by Emily Harney of (Kiko Martinez and trainer Pablo Sarmiento celebrating after a title-winning victory over Jhonatan Romero), while third place went to Showtime’s Tom Casino (Anthony Dirrell somersaulting after beating Anthony Hanshaw).

Fukuda also got an honorable mention in the Action Photo category for his shot of a bloody Gabriel Rosado having his face distorted by a punch from Gennady Golovkin, also on Jan. 19.

The winner of the Action category was Will Hart, of HBO Sports, and his photo of Tim Bradley landing a punch on Juan Manuel Marquez. Tom Hogan of Golden Boy Promotions (Josesito Lopez landing a right hand on Marcos Maidana) and Chris Farina of Top Rank (Guillermo Rigondeaux’s win against Nonito Donaire) took second and third place, respectively.
