Middleweight Daniel Jacobs scored three knockdowns during Saturday's first-round knockout of Milton Nunez on the undercard of the Danny Garcia-Milton Herrera fight on Showtime from the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez.

The knockdowns were scored, consecuively, with a left hook, right hand, left hook with 1:20, 0:59 and five seconds left in the fight as referee Ramon Pena waved an end to the bout with Nunez (26-10-1, 24 knockouts) still down. The official time of the stoppage was 2 minutes, 25 seconds.

In victory, Jacobs (27-1, 24 KOs) scored his seventh straight knockout victory since, himself, being stopped in the fifth round by Dmitry Pirog in July 2010.

"He caught me with a good right hand and that kind of woke me up. But I got off that counter, and I kind of wanted to test myself. He wasn't really a skillful fighter, but he could punch. But when he caught me with that right hand, I said, 'Okay, it's time to wake up,'" said Jacobs.

"I put my combinations together right behind my jab, and got him out of there. I've seen this guy fight before and I knew that he couldn't take a really good shot, so all I needed to do was just exactly what I did, and that's to finish the job."

Jacobs was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer that manifested itself as a walnut-sized tumor wrapped around his spine, in May 2011.

The tumor had damaged his nerves and caused partial paralysis in his legs. Doctors advised him to quit boxing. But after having the tumor removed and going through rehabilitation, Jacobs resumed training.

Jacobs returned to the ring on Oct. 20, 2012, scoring a first-round knockout against Josh Luteran — his third consecutive stoppage win — in the inaugural boxing show at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"For me, nothing can stop me. I'm living proof that if you take your destiny into your own hands, no one can stop you," said Jacobs. "I was told that I could never do this again, right?. But here I am. They can't deny me. I'm living proof to all of the survivors out there that anything is possible."

Jacobs would like to face WBO beltholder Peter Quillin, who has a defense on April 19 against Lukas Konecny.

Jacobs and Quillin are promoted by Golden Boy and advised by Al Haymon.

"I'm rooting for him to win. Obviously, that's a match that the fans want," said Jacobs. "I believe that Brooklyn fans deserve it, and we need to make it happen. We have the same promoter and the same mangers, so it needs to happen."

In another undercard bout, welterweight Ed Paredes (35-3-1, 23 knockouts) improved his winning streak to 14-0-1 with 10 knockouts over his past 15 bouts with a second-round stoppage of George Sosa.

Paredes last suffered defeat by unanimous decision to current IBF 154-pound beltholder Carlos Molina in 2009.
