If Omar Figueroa Jr. has his way, the 24-year-old WBC lightweight titleholder will make Ricardo Alvarez pay when they meet on the March 8 undercard of Canelo Alvarez-Alfredo Angulo in Las Vegas.

Figueroa said that he is hoping to do so, among other things, in the name of his four-month-old daughter, Sofia Magdalena Figueroa. 

"I just want to make him pay for making me go through camp, and making me go through the diet, and for making me sacrifice family time, daughter time, that's pretty much what goes through my mind when I go into the ring," said Figueroa, who will fight Alvarez at the MGM Grand.

"I want to make the guy pay for making me have to go through all of that, and to show that I didn't do all of that in vain. You know, I just didn't go through leaving my family, leaving my daughter, leaving everything just to come and mess around. So, you know, I take that very seriously."

Figueroa (22-0-1, 17 knockouts) aims to deliver an action-packed fan-friendly fight against Alvarez (23-2-3, 14 KOs), just as he did winning the title against Nihito Arakawa, flooring the Japanese veteran twice during a unanimous decision in August.

Although Figueroa's trainer, Joel Diaz, believes that Figueroa can stop Alvarez within five rounds, Figueroa said that he will not go head-hunting.

"I will let the fight develop. I always do, even though my style is a very aggressive style," said Figueroa Jr. "I know that it looks like I'm always going for the knockout or to finish the guy early, but really, my point in the ring is just to punish my opponents as much as possible, and that's it."

Alvarez is the older brother of Canelo Alvarez, the star of the Showtime Pay Per View event.

The card will feature the first defense by IBF 154-pound titleholder Carlos Molina against prospect Jermell Charlo, the 23-year-old twin brother of unbeaten junior middleweight contender Jermell Charlo, as well as WBC 122-pound beltholder Leo Santa Cruze against former beltholder Cristian Mijares.

A fourth bout matches Jorge Linares against Arakawa on Showtime Extreme prior to the pay per view.
