Juan Manuel Marquez is close to accepting "an all-action fight" at 147-pounds against Mike Alvarado on May 17 that will "be bombs away right at the first bell," Marquez's Mexico-based promoter Fernando Beltran told RingTV.com on Tuesday.

A former 140-pound beltholder, Alvarado's manager, Henry Delgado, informed RingTV.com that the Denver-based fighter already has agreed in principle to face Marquez, whose ultimate goal is a showdown with the winner of the April 12 Tim BradleyManny Pacquiao rematch.

The probable site for Marquez-Alvarado is The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., which is now owned by Madison Square Garden and recently underwent a $40 million facelift.

"I would say that, from our side, the fight is 80 percent to 90 percent done," said Beltran, during a telephone conversation for a Q&A from Maui, where he is vacationing with his wife and three children.

"So, definitely, it looks pretty good…It's going to be bombs away right at the first bell. That's for sure. It's going to be bombs away. They're clearly going to throw bombs at each other, and we're comfortable for that."

Marquez, who turns 41 in August, was last in the ring for a split-decision loss to Bradley last October that followed his sixth-round stoppage of Pacquiao in December 2012.

Marquez craves a rematch with Bradley, a split-decision winner over Pacquiao in June 2012, as well as a title in a fifth weight class.

Beltran has spoken to Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum, about the potential for the return bout against Bradley or a fifth fight with Pacquiao, against whom Marquez is 1-2-1.

Alvarado is 1-2 over the course of his past three fights. He was stopped in the seventh round by Brandon Rios in October 2012, won their rematch by unanimous decision last March and was floored twice during an eighth-round knockout loss to Ruslan Provodnikov last October. Alvarado lost the WBO 140-pound belt to Provodnikov.

Beltran shared more of his thoughts with RingTV.com in this Q&A:

RingTV.com: So where is Marquez with his decision?

Fernando Beltran: Well, I have already met with Juan Manuel. We're at the point where we're negotiating the purses and everything, and he's totally interested in the fight on May 17 to open The Forum against Alvarado.

So I gave him my proposal, and we've started the negotiations already. Right now, we're working on the numbers. We're going to be talking on the telephone from over here, and then, we're supposed to meet next Monday. Either he'll come to my hometown, or I will go to his hometown.

RingTV.com: How close are you in completing the process, on a scale of 1-to-10?

FB: If you asked me that question, I would say that, from our side, the fight is 80 percent to 90 percent done. So, definitely, it looks pretty good.

RingTV.com: What sort of fight to you envision between Marquez and Alvarado?

FB: Oh, it's going to be bombs away right at the first bell. That's for sure. It's going to be bombs away. They're clearly going to throw bombs at each other, and we're comfortable (with) that.

I'm telling you that Juan Manuel is very comfortable with that, and he's prepared himself very well for that type of situation with this guy. Believe me, Marquez is going to be ready for that type of a fight, 100 percent.

RingTV.com: What scenario is Marquez hoping is the result of this?

FB: Look, Juan Manuel is definitely not fighting just to be fighting. That's not the reason. Alvarado has been involved in some great fights over the last couple of years, and he's a very solid and respectful opponent.

Juan Manuel knows that if he wants to be in there and to fight the winner between Bradley and Pacquiao, that he needs to be in a fight of this level, and we know that that's where we are.

We thought that we won the fight with Bradley, and we definitely won the last fight with Pacquiao, so, right now, the thing is let's see how he does. We know that 100 percent, Juan Manuel is feeling great.

Let's see him in this type of fight with this type of sensational opponent. I think that this is going to be a fight that everyone will want to see, and it's going to be an all-action fight.

This guy is not going to run, he's going to be standing right in front of Juan Manuel, and I believe that the fights are going to be the ones who are the winners. It's going to be a sensational fight.
