Lamont Peterson vs Jean 2 nicholas kamm afpgetty

Lamont Peterson rebounded from a KO loss in his last bout and retained his IBF 140-pound title by outworking and outfighting undefeated challenger Dierry Jean to a unanimous decision victory in the main event of a Showtime Championship Boxing telecast from the DC Armory in Washington, D.C., on Saturday.

Peterson (32-2-1, 16 knockouts), who won by scores of 118-111, 116-112 and 115-113, outjabbed Jean early in the fight, outfought the game Candaian-Haitian boxer-puncher in the middle rounds and outworked his mandatory challenger down the stretch of a 12-round fight that was entertaining and competitive in spots.

The 30-year-old veteran, who was fighting in his hometown, seemed to recapture the form he had prior to being stopped in the third round against Lucas Matthysse last May.

Jean (25-1, 17 KOs), a 31-year-old Montreal-based Haiti native, landed some hard shots here and there but could not keep up with Peterson's punch volume and pressure.
