Fury camp claims no Warren deal done … yet

Tyson Fury has yet to sign and seal any deal with Frank Warren and BoxNation, according to the English heavyweight’s promoter, Mick Hennessy.

Hennessy has moved quickly to correct a statement from Warren apparently confirming Fury is inked in to feature on his Feb. 15 show at the Copper Box Arena in east London, which is being headlined by British heavyweight Dereck Chisora against Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko.

Warren was quoted in the release – at length – even claiming that if both men are victorious next month it will trigger an anticipated rematch between the pair early this summer. Fury, from Manchester, beat Londoner Chisora on points in a British and Commonwealth title clash back in July 2011.

“I’m delighted that Tyson and Mick are working with us and he’ll have his first fight on the Copper Box Arena show on Saturday, 15th February,” Warren said on Wednesday. “The plan is for both of them to come through their fights on the night and then the pair will meet in a massive rematch in June.

“Because it’s the biggest fight out there for them and it’s a fight that the public want to see the only place for it to happen would be a football stadium, a real summer extravaganza between the big men of British boxing before the World Cup. Tyson beat Dereck a few years ago and since then both of them have come on.

“Tyson has done fantastic, winning both here and abroad, and has marked himself as one of the world’s most exciting heavyweights. Dereck’s performances have been spot on recently, his weight is right and so is his attitude and focus, and he’s a real handful for any heavyweight out there.

“I’m already excited by it, Chisora versus Fury is the biggest fight out there and it could certainly be a world title eliminator. But plans can be upset though. Chisora has a by no means easy fight against a hard and undefeated Ukrainian in Rudenko, who’s knocked out 16 of 24 opponents.”

All sounded pretty concrete. Or at least it did until Fury’s uncle, trainer and manager, Peter Fury, took to Twitter and stated nothing is signed because there is nothing to sign…at this moment.

“Our promoter is still Mick Hennessy!! We are currently awaiting the contract in a co-promotion with BoxNation. Only then the deal is done!!” read Fury’s tweet.

Hennessy has since echoed those sentiments.

“These reports are not true. We’ve had a verbal offer from BoxNation to appear on three of their shows but as yet have not received any contract to look at and consider,” Hennessy said to www.boxingscene.com. “Until something is agreed to in writing and has been signed into, myself, Peter Fury and Tyson are keeping our options open. We were told it would be at least 48 hours before we receive any paperwork to look at and we are still awaiting any such communication.”
