Omar Narvaez will probably never catch on outside of his home country of Argentina, but there’s no disputing that he’s the class of the 115 pound division.

The 38-year-old Narvaez continued to roll on Saturday night, stopping grizzled veteran Hiroyuki Hisataka in ten rounds to register the eighth successful defense of his WBO junior bantamweight title at Gimnasio Municipal N┬░ 1 in his hometown of Trelew, Chubut, Argentina. Referee Julio Cesar Alvarado stopped the bout at the 1:26 mark, as Hisataka absorbed punishment along the ropes after being rendered defenseless by Narvaez’s crippling body assault.

Narvaez (40-1-2, 21 knockouts) has now won five straight since his lone career defeat – a dismal shutout loss to Nonito Donaire Jr. in October 2011 in his lone appearance on American soil. Hisataka (22-11-1, 10 KOs) of Osaka, Japan loses for the fourth time in as many title vies.

Narvaez, who retains his spot as the no. 1 rated junior bantamweight in the RING ratings, turned pro in 2000 after representing his country in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. He won the WBO flyweight title less than two years later and made 16 defenses of that title over seven years before stepping up in weight.
