Golovkin-Stevens on Nov. 2?

Fighters Network

Middleweight standout Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, whom RingTV.com reported was considering an offer from Tom Loeffler, of K2 Promotions, to fight WBA 160-pound titleholder Gennady Golovkin, has reportedly reached a deal to challenge the undefeated beltholder Nov. 2 on HBO.

Neither Loeffler nor Stevens’ promoter, Kathy Duva, president of Main Events, could be reached for immediate comment.

Duva was in Cardiff, Wales, on Saturday, where her fighter, Sergey Kovalev, scored a fourth-round knockout that dethroned Nathan Cleverly as WBO light heavyweight titleholder.

Stevens (25-3, 18 knockouts) caught Loeffler’s attention by calling out Golovkin (27-0, 24 KOs) 10 days prior to his first-round stoppage of Saul Roman, after which Loeffler said Stevenson “might get his wish.”

Boxrec.com is also listing the fight as happening on Nov. 2 at Madison Square Garden.

Stevens had said that Golovkin would be the most enticing of the division’s beltholders, targeting him over RING and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez as well as IBF and WBO counterparts Daniel Geale and Peter Quillin.

Against Roman, Stevens came up with his fourth-straight win, three of which have been first-round KOs, while Golovkin scored his 14th-straight knockout in June against Matthew Macklin.

Stevens signed with Main Events before earning an eight-round unanimous decision over Derrick Findley in April.
