British junior featherweight contender Scott Quigg will have hometown advantage when he faces Cuban star Yoandris Salinas for the WBA 122-pound title on the undercard of the David Haye-Tyson Fury bill at the Manchester Arena, Sept. 28.

News that the two unbeaten 122-pound contenders will be the main undercard attraction of the highly-anticipated grudge showdown between rival English heavyweights Haye and Fury was confirmed Wednesday.

That should give Quigg (26-0-1, 19 knockouts), who is from nearby Bury, a significant boost against the threat of 27-year-old Salinas (20-0, 13 KOs) as he attempts to confirm his credentials at elite level.

Certainly, that is how Quigg, THE RING’s No. 4-rated junior featherweight, is viewing the opportunity.

“It’s a dream come true that my first World title fight will be in Manchester,” said the 24-year-old Brit, who last time out back in June stopped Brazilian William Prado inside three rounds. “It’ll be a massive boost to have my fans there and, with Haye and Fury fighting too, it’s a huge night to be involved in and a great stage to land a world title. I’ve worked so hard to get here and I’m going to grab this title with both hands.”

Eddie Hearn, the Matchroom supremo who recently took over promoting Quigg, is equally bullish at the prospect of his charge being involved in a massive evening of domestic boxing action. Haye versus Fury is a sell-out and also a Sky Box Office pay-per-view TV event.

“It’s fantastic for Scott to be challenging for his first world title on this bill – they’re both young unbeaten fighters and desperate to take this golden chance. It’s a great fight on what promises to be a huge night for British boxing.”
