There weren’t many high-profile fights this past weekend but fans were treated to some interesting results, some of which reflected on THE RING’s divisional ratings, such as Tomoki Kameda’s history making victory at bantamweight.

At heavyweight, the rest by Tomasz Adamek, THE RING’s No. 5-rated contender, was obviously good for him as he soundly defeated Dominic Guinn. On the undercard of that NBC Sports Net-televised show that included Adamek-Guinn, unbeaten hopeful Vyacheslav Glazkov stopped journeyman Byron Polley in two rounds. No movement in the heavyweight rankings.

At cruiserweight, former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers made his debut in one boxing’s deepest divisions. However, he lost a wide-margin 10-round unanimous decision to Thabiso Mchunu, who is a welcome addition to the division with the skilled way he fought for the first time away from his native South Africa. No movement.

At middleweight, Curtis “Showtime” Stevens scored a great first-round KO over Saul Roman. Stevens is not a top-10 contender, yet. No movement.

At featherweight, THE RING’s No. 9 ranked Javier Fortuna fought to a 10-round draw with Luis Franco in a lackluster fight. It’s difficult to bring Franco into the rankings with such a boring fight. No movement.

At junior featherweight, Kameda, our No. 6-rated contender, dropped to bantamweight with a decision victory over beltholder Paulus Ambunda. The young Japanese star, who made history by becoming the third Kameda brother to win a major title, is now ranked at bantamweight. Victor Terrazas will move up one spot at No. 6 to fill Kameda’s vacancy; Jonathan Romero moves to No. 7; Leo Santa Cruz moved to No. 8; Cristian Mijares moves to No. 9; and Fernando Montiel reenters the 122-pound rankings at No. 10.

At bantamweight: Kameda’s unanimous decision over the previously undefeated Ambunda, earned the Spanish-speaking Tokyo native the WBO belt and booted the previously unbeaten Namibian down the rankings. The new lower top-10 line-up for bantamweight is as follows: No. 6 Joseph Agbeko; No. 7 Jamie McConnell; No. 8 Julio Ceja; No. 9 Kameda; and Ambuda drops to No. 10.

At flyweight, No. 10-rated Luis Concepcion scored a one-sided unanimous decision over Nestor Narvaez, who was knocked down in the fifth round. Concepcion had one point deducted for illegal blows in the eighth round.

Fringe contenders Ricardo Nunez stopped Nerys Espinoza in the 12th and final round; and Koki Eto won a unanimous decision over Kompayak Porpramoor. No movement.
