Panamanian bantamweight Anselmo Moreno will end a nine-month ring absence and make the 11th defense of his WBA title when he faces Colombian William Urina on Aug. 10 in Panama City, Panama, Sampson Boxing chief Sampson Lewkowicz announced on Monday.

Moreno (33-2-1, 12 knockouts), who is 28, last fought as a junior featherweight in November, when he lost a unanimous decision to then-WBC beltholder Abner Mares, ending his winning streak at 27.

Urina (24-2, 20 KOs), who is 27 and a southpaw like Moreno, had won six straight bouts, all by knockout, before scoring a unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Jesus Martinez in his last fight in March.

Urina last suffered defeat by unanimous decision against once-beaten WBO junior bantamweight beltholder Omar Narvaez in June of 2011.

Also scheduled are junior featherweights Oscar Escandon and former titleholder Nehomar Cermeno, welterweights Azael Cosio and Devis Caceres, and Venezuela’s female WBA featherweight beltholder Ogleidis Suarez in the first defense of her title, a rematch against Colombia’s Liliana “La Tigresa” Palmera.

“This event will be like the Superbowl of Panama. The people of Panama will be glued to the TV to watch their national heroes in action in tough fights,” said Lewkowicz.

“Those lucky enough to get a ticket will see what boxing in Las Vegas is like without leaving their homeland. We are opening up more seats to accommodate the tremendous interest in this great show. I congratulate the people of Panama for their wonderful passion for world-championship boxing.”

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has announced the signing of unbeaten Chinese lightweight Yang Liang Hui, a winner of his past seven fights by knockout.

Yang, 28, is 13-0 with nine stoppages, and is coming off of a first-round knockout of Roger Rosa at Shelton, Wash., in June.

MANNY PACQUIAO WINS FIRST RACE WITH BRANDON RIOS

Manny Pacquiao out-ran Brandon Rios up the stairs of the top of the Great Wall of China outside Beijing on Monday during the fighters’ second stop in a seven-city press tour promoting their welterweight fight on Nov. 24 in Macau (Nov. 23 in the western hemisphere).

Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 knockouts), who turns 35 in December, is trying to bounce back from consecutive losses, by disputed split-decision to WBO beltholder Tim Bradley and sixth-round knockout to Juan Manuel Marquez, last year.

Rios (31-1, 23 KOs), who is 27, is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to Mike Alvarado during a March rematch of Rios’ seventh-round stoppage win last October.
