Returning former junior middleweight titleholder Yuri Foreman made it an easy night on Wednesday at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, as he widely outpointed Philadelphia trialhorse Jamaal Davis in their eight-round main event.

Brooklyn’s Foreman (31-2, 8 KOs) was fighting for the third time since a two-year reprieve from the ring. He had lost two straight fights, to Miguel Cotto and Pawel Wolak respectively, before taking a nearly two-year sabbatical.

Davis (14-10-1, 6 KOs) is the prototypical spoiler, but was unable to put enough together to give Foreman much issue. Foreman was able to control the action from the outside for much of the night, not allowing the rugged Davis to work inside.

Davis suffered a cut on the right eyelid midway through the bout, and Foreman jumped on the attack at the sight of the blood. Davis was largely ineffective for the duration of the bout. This was reflected in the scoring, which read 80-72 across all three judges’ cards.

Foreman is still a few wins away from being considered a contender in a deep junior middleweight division, but has done well in shaking off the rust with small, steady steps up since returning to action.

In the co-feature, all-action super bantamweight brawler Heather Hardy (6-0, KO) battered Seattle’s Cassie Trost (1-2-1) to a stoppage victory. Trost was a bloody mess early in the fight as Hardy was relentless in her attack, ultimately putting Trost to a knee in the fourth round. The referee stopped it shortly after at 1:34 of the round, getting the popular Hardy her first knockout win.

Brooklyn light heavyweight Travis Peterkin (8-0, 4 KOs) carried overmatched blown up middleweight Hector Hernandez, of Yuma, Ariz., the six-round distance, pitching a shutout.

The southpaw Peterkin should have gotten his opponent out of there in the early going, but seemed content to go rounds. Peterkin landed a straight left often, but never followed it up with much intent to finish the fight. Scores were 60-54 thrice.

Port Chester, New York’s Bryant Cruz (6-0, 5 KOs) kept his undefeated record intact, but lost his perfect knockout percentage in the process. Cruz picked up a four-round unanimous decision over game novice Nuwan Jayakody (1-2, KO), of Sri Lanka.

Jayakody went tit-for-tat with Cruz early on, but the unbeaten local junior lightweight prospect’s pressure began to mount as he outworked his opponent. Every time it seemed as though Jayakody was about to wilt, he would spring back into action, even landing flush in the process. Cruz seems in the mold of a Brandon Rios, where his relentless pressure will benefit him as his fights get longer in distance. He should also be as fun to watch as Rios is known to be. Scores were 40-36 thrice in favor of Cruz.

In an intriguing six-round middleweight bout, Louis Rose (8-1, 2 KOs) of Lynwood, Calif., earned a unanimous decision over Brooklyn’s Akil Auguste (2-1, 2 KOs). Scores were 59-55 across the board. In his last fight, Rose handed DiBella prospect Delen Parsley his first defeat in an upset.

Lightweight Louis Cruz (4-0, 2 KOs) of Manhattan scored a four-round unanimous decision over Justin Robbins (1-2), dropping Robbins in the second round. Scores all read 40-35.

Ecuador-born heavyweight Ytalo Perea (4-0, 3 KOs) scored a first-round stoppage of John Orr (1-1), of Kansas City, in their scheduled four-round bout.

Junior middleweight Emmanuel De Jesus (6-0, 4 KOs), of Puerto Rico, remained unbeaten, shutting out Khalik Memminger (6-11-3, 3 KOs), of Killeen, Tex., in their four-round bout.

Celebrities in attendance included 50 Cent, Susan Sarandon and Rosie Perez.
